Today I would like to write about some difficulties and benefits that I have gained in Leadership programme, Any how I could have a largely positive attitudes on that camp. Let me give an account of my views on the programme as I see it, having participated, learnt, endured, enjoyed and come out .
I could able to meet many friends who are from different areas with different culture. I have learnt different cultures, various skills and attitudes there. Facing barriers also some kind of skills that I could able to learn there.
On the 1 st day, I was afraid about "How could I face 21 days". But I could able to manage all things in 2 or 3 days..
This programme made me to explode Home sick, ya in 21 days I have learnt to stay apart from family with lack of facilities. we have settled down into a routine of work and sleep. Many officers who are in High level have addressed about our problems and gave solutions too. I am thanking all who helped us there in such circumstances.
Bathrooms and Toilets
The first thing I have to mention is the Bathroom and toilets. we were Unlucky because we were not putted in A or B group. A and B groups were able to use isolated bathrooms for each groups. but another 3 groups with about 120 students was informed to use 1 bathroom with 4 toilets and 6 tabs.The queue for it was like a Big train. If they had given 24 hours to use. It could be acceptable . But they given us little.
Another problem we have faced is water . There was a need to stay continuously in toilets searching the drops of waters when would it came next. Some time Toilets could be seen free. but the buckets would not be there.
PT and Marching
Some best thing I have admired is PT and Marching.But I prefer command should be in English. All marching bands from school trained in english But there In Sinhala.so there eill be a conflict amoung all. They need a translator for it to teach Tamil students.
Grounds are fully filled with stone. I didn't know the reason for it. It makes injuries when falling down onto the ground. I prefer grasses for it.
Lectures
Lectures are from different topics which are very useful to all students. But the time they issued for lectures is another matter. After the PT and Marching, They have scheduled Lectures. Every average human mind will want a rest after losing energy in PT and Marching. So students will have a doze. Another matter Is language , English lectures will be helpful to tamil students. they couldn't get the real meanings of the lectures. because Translators did not educated in every field.
Sports
It was ok. But in some instances Some students who doesn't know how to lead the players have taken the position of captain and lost the game. I don't want to Describe deeply. But Staffs should care about the players.
Foods and Accommodations
I have learnt to eat 3 time rice and curry. But I can't blame them for it because It is their traditional way of taking foods. But It was totally different from Tamil's foods.
The best thing I have to highlight is Tea , they have given us 4 times tea a day.some times 6 time a day . There were no faults on that.
some students from rich family may suffer a lot.At first we have faced some problems by Bed bug. As the result of our report It was corrected.
Staffs
In some times Staffs were very hot tempered .But it is wanted to control students. But In some instances they were angered without any reasons. Are they reporting the problems of students to high level is also questionable. Everyone tries to rule their beloved ones. They ruled us to queue in 3 lines after few minutes the shouts would be" line in 5 ".They were kind in some moments but not always. All staffs are not like that. some one are very kind and teach us and talk with us.
Canteens
I could able to buy some things like soap brushes biscuit etc. But they have missed some basic things like pins. And the man from canteen have 5 rupee problem. lack of food items also another problem. They take only biscuits and smack only.
In my view, If students take it as a useful programme and stop worrying about problems and concentrate on the mission, It will be useful to them otherwise it will be waste for them.It's just an article to say about the situations we have faced. But Leadership training programme is wanted for the future generations to build up the country. I think i n 2 or 3 years everything will be changed and have many facilities too.
